Environmental Policy
The Design Factory Ltd is committed to providing a quality service in a manner that minimises our potential impact on the environment. We will operate in compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and we will strive to use pollution prevention and environmental best practices in all we do.
We will:-
- Integrate the consideration of environmental concerns and impacts into all of our decision-making and activities.
- Promote environmental awareness among our employees and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Train, educate and inform our employees about environmental issues that may affect their work.
- Reduce waste through re-use and recycling and by purchasing recycled, recyclable or re-furbished products and materials where these alternatives are available, economical and suitable.
- Promote efficient use of materials and resources throughout our facility including water, electricity, raw materials and other resources, particularly those that are non-renewable.
- Avoid unnecessary use of hazardous materials and products, seek substitutions when feasible, and take all reasonable steps to protect human health and the environment when such materials must be used, stored and disposed of.
- Purchase and use environmentally responsible products accordingly.
- Communicate our environmental commitment to clients, customers and the public and encourage them to support it.
- Strive to continually improve our environmental performance and minimise the social impact and damage of activities by periodically reviewing our environmental policy in light of our current and planned future activities.
Environmental Printing Policy
The Design Factory Ltd is committed to providing quality print in a manner that minimises our potential impact on the environment. We will operate in compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and we will strive to use pollution prevention and environmental best practices in all we do.
We will:-
- Follow the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) practices with the production of paper products.
- Use printers that have the Forest Stewardship Council certificate.
- Promote the fact that we use FSC accreditation in line with certified printers and in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council.
- Correctly label paper products in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council policy and the specific printer.
- Display the FSC label on the product in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council policy, the design of the product, and where possible with the wishes of the customer requirements.
- Supply copies of certificates upon request.
- Use printing companies that implement BS EN ISO 14001: 2004 environment policies.
- Use printing companies that implement EN ISO 9001: 2008 quality policies.
- Use vegetable based-inks to reduce emissions into the atmosphere.
- Use water-based litho varnishes where required.
Packaging
- Supply environmental packaging materials to enhance the environmental status of the product.
- Use bio-degradable bags, shrink-wrap and lamination.
- Use recyclable corrugated packing boxes containing the products for delivery.
Equality and Diversity Policy
It is the policy of The Design Factory to treat all employees and job applicants fairly and equally regardless of their sex, sexual orientation, marital status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, age, disability or union membership status.
Furthermore The Design Factory will ensure that no requirement or condition will be imposed without justification which could disadvantage individuals purely on any of the above grounds.
The policy applies to recruitment and selection, terms and conditions of employment including pay, promotion, training, transfer and every other aspect of employment.
The Design Factory will regularly review its procedures and selection criteria to ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and otherwise treated according to their relevant individual abilities and merits.
The Design Factory is committed to the implementation of this policy and to a programme of action to ensure that the policy is, and continues to be, fully effective. The overall responsibility for the policy lies with Alan Mills, Director.
However, all staff are required to comply with the policy and to act in accordance with its objectives so as to remove any barriers to equal opportunity.
Any act of discrimination by employees or any failure to comply with the terms of the policy will result in disciplinary action.

Health and Safety Policy
The Design Factory recognises its duty to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
The Design Factory will, as far as is reasonably practicable.
- Provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work activities.
- Consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety; provide and maintain safe equipment.
- Ensure safe handling and use of substances.
- Provide information, instruction and supervision for employees.
- Ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks, and give them adequate training.
- Prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health.
- Maintain safe and healthy working conditions.
- Review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.
